DESIGN NAME: Mobius
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lamp
INSPIRATION: The Mobius Ring gave the inspiration for this design. The methmetical
model of Mobius ring attracted my attention when I was reading a book, this inspired me to make a rough paper model and try to make an exploratory assumption, How beautiful and timeless would it look if I could make it into a lamp and hang it in my house.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Mobius ring gives inspiration for this lamp design. One lamp strip may have two shadow surfaces (i.e. two-sided surface), the obverse and the reverse, which will satisfy all-round lighting demand. Its special and simple shape contains mysterious mathematical beauty. Therefore, more rhythmic beauty will be brought to home life.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: One lamp strip may have two shadow surfaces (i.e. two-sided surface), the obverse and the reverse, which will satisfy all-round lighting demand.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project began in May 2018 in China and finished in November 2019 in Milano, and will be exhibited in Salone Satellite in April 2020.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The pendant's shell is made of bamboo, The outer shell of the lamp is formed by using a bamboo material through a heat bending forming process, and the lampshade is made of acrylic material with a built-in LED strip.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This shape is developed from the Mobius band. It is not easy to show the Mobius elements beautifully. This process took a lot of time to experiment. In the beginning, we drew sketch a lot of shapes to explore and then folding basic shapes with paper, we gradually perfected the shape through 3D models and 3D printing technology. And finally, we made the functional prototype.
CHALLENGE: The process of exploring this shape is very difficult because we don't want to make it look too superficial and like the Mobius band. Therefore we must find a balance in the shape.
