| DESIGN NAME: V-Cube 2020 PRIMARY FUNCTION: Packaging INSPIRATION: The inspiration of packaging shape comes from the Star Wars Tie fighter. The vacuum part that holds the cube in place inside the pack, forms a tie fighter wings shape. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: V-Cube required to redesign the new V-Cube puzzle cube packaging for the cubes V-Cube2, V-Cube-3 and V-Cube-4. The requirements was the puzzle cube to 100% visible, to be able to have build-in hanger for pegboard, to reduce material use, to minimize packaging assembly time and above all to be affordable. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The box consists of 3 parts. The first one is the paper box that hold the cube inside. The second part is a PET vacuum part in the shape of tie fighter wings that can be used for both pillow and flat cubes. Many 3D prototypes have been made in order to optimize the design so that the cubes can be locked in place inside the cube given the parameter that pillow and flat cubes have different dimensions. The 3rd part is a transparent PET outer box. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: PAPER BOX: 300gsm CCNB, CMYK offeset printing, water based coating VACCUM: PET OOUTER PLASTIC BOX: PET TAGS: packaging, cube, puzzle RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Online and offline research. Evaluation of competitor's packaging and issues with current packaging CHALLENGE: The hardest part the design of a single vacuum part to fit both flat and pillow cubes. The dimensions of flat and pillow cubes are different and the pillow cubes have little support are because of it's shape.
