DESIGN NAME: Yingtao Road Terrace House
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence
INSPIRATION: In terms of function planning, the designers installed elevators, safety lights, barrier free spaces, spacious walkways, a friendly circulation, etc, all while elevating from just meeting the needs of life to pursuing quality of life through contrast in light and shadow, material vocabulary, and exquisite details, perfectly implementing the designers humanist core values.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: To meet the elderly needs in a living environment, the designers have also installed an elevator, barrier-free spaces without height differences, and safety lights that automatically turn on. The spotless white marble was used as the foundation for the living space of the parents, while subtle black architectural concrete perfectly fits the personality of the second son, and the pristine gray tone is what the third son longed for minimalism.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: During the designing of this three stories project, the functions and styles of each floor are different and have their own characteristics depending on the needs of the occupants, but they all take into account the possibility of future changes. From the perspective of a home for all ages, the designer thoughtfully planned a barrier free design such as widening the corridors, adding light fixtures and elevators, and considering that friends often pay a visit, the public area was constructed based on the form of a reception center, creating an open and flexible functional layout.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in August 2019 in Yingge District, Taiwan and finished in November 2019.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The TV wall is covered with spotless marble. In the center, a half-height bar counter with storage and display functions divides the living room and dining room. The third floor is illustrated with a calm black tone, utilizing black glass and architectural concrete to set a soft loft style complemented by furniture both light and dark. Furthermore, in order to meet reading needs, a leisurely and comfortable and quiet corner was planned. On the fourth floor, the profile of the space was clearly outlined with simple and neat lines.
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge in this project was how to maintain the traditional Taiwanese house and personal styles, and the consideration of safety for the elderly and the possible increase of future family members. Therefore, the designers thought rationally and logically, reorganizing the layout and function of each floor while incorporating barrier-free designs according to the living habits of each occupant. At the same time, via perceptual style vocabulary, the designers were able to create an inclusive home for all ages where functionality and aesthetics both thrive.
