| DESIGN NAME: Osker PRIMARY FUNCTION: Armchair INSPIRATION: The inspiration for Osker originated from a preference for Scandinavian seating furniture. For this armchair I started with the idea of designing a low armchair that was fully upholstered. However after repeatedly presenting the design in my head and on the drawing board, I realized that this chair deserved to be undressed. As a result Osker was created using vissible structures in combination with separate leather seat cushions. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Osker immediately invites you to sit back and relax. This armchair has a very pronounced and curved design providing distinctive characteristics such as perfectly crafted timber joineries, leather armrests and cushioning. The many details and the use of high quality materials: leather and solid wood guarantee a contemporary and timeless design. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Osker is a low armchair that is designed as a seat. You can use the chair like any other chair. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2019 and finished by the end of january 2020 in Antwerp. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: For this design it was important to make a good 3d drawing of the model. The 3d model was needed at a later stage of the production process to be able to give all elements such as legs and backrest the correct shapes and to make them with a cnc machine. The major challenges in the design was making the connections in the round parts. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: w=750mm L=850mm H=800mm TAGS: armchair, wood, seating, leather, osker, contemporary, timeless, guntherpelgrims, RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: The most difficult part of the design was to convert the design into the actual product. At an early stage it soon became clear that from the start of the prototyping process changes had to be made to the design, in terms of strength and stability. NAME: Gunther Pelgrims PROFILE: Gunther Pelgrims (1980) is a Belgian designer passioned about working with wood. His passion for wood started very early resulting in his daily profession as interior woodworker. His extended experience in fabricating high-end, made to measure interiors has given him all skills and know-how to express his creativity into his own designs. All of his creations exudes “true” craftmanship and are born from the desire to make unique and functional objects with a modern twist. By using pure and naturel materials Pelgrims’ designs are timeless and universal. |
