Interview with CHEANG Hoi Fung at Monday 4th of May 2020

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
HC: - the design mood and functional requirement from my client. (zen mood, hotel ambient and mult- function area and interior space blended with the outdoor scenery -timeless, peaceful, harmony, functional with all hidden storage, zen material with metal highlighted, form follows function

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
HC: - the layout planning, strict alignment rules and material combination

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
HC: - treat it as a milestone, recognition and motivation for the company development -enhance the confident of new clients using us.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
HC: - after couple of mediations

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
HC: I worked this out together with my client.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
HC: the design is directly produced to my client.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
HC: -client has strong sense in the mood of zen and modern blended with elegant luxury, so do i.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
HC: as I did a lot of luxury retail projects where the refined detail inspired me on this project. so that the zen mood becomes more refined and elegant.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
HC: someone required for high quality, peaceful, timeless and precise design.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
HC: -the layout and functional requirement is unique. so that the design is unique for each projects; always form follows function, less is more.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
HC: Zen Living. the space is for living, mediation, worship and enjoy the peaceful and harmony

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
HC: autocad, hand drawing

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
HC: timeless, NOT fully follow the trend, practical, precise, strong mind on proportion, alignment and ergonomics

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
HC: myself, my client and my millworker

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
HC: drawing

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
HC: no

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
HC: too much irregular structural members at the space against the harmony/ peaceful theme

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
HC: I will review the end result each time in order to make improvement for next projects.
