Interview with Li-Yu Cheng at Tuesday 5th of May 2020 FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? CL: Project MASTECH Dongguan intends to combine leisure activity, exercising and work, finally making formal office a playground for everyone. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? CL: 6 months. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? CL: "MASTECH Dongguan" is an office for MASTECH, which is one of the world’s largest suppliers of electronic measuring instruments. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? CL: The clients and employees of MASTECH. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? CL: The flexibility and zoning of the space. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? CL: The city which the office is based in. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? CL: SketchUp and Layout. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? CL: All kinds of meetings and conferences take place here. The formal conference room is thus divided into different kinds of meeting places, so that discussion would take place around every corner. Clients and employees could talk to each other while walking or exercising in the whole area with ease. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? CL: Not at all.
