Interview with Daria Kwon at Friday 12th of April 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? DK: Main idea is to express the feeling of exotic fruits, plants and Thai summer through abstract illustrations without drawing realistic stereotypical objects. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? DK: Series of abstract illustrations and graphic elements in bold bright color palette, hand-written logo and lettering for postcards. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? DK: About a month. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? DK: This design was commissioned. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? DK: The design is being used by company, who is my client. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? DK: No. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? DK: Female, age 16-50, who are interested in exotic Thai cosmetics. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? DK: Bright individual style in combination with lettering, abstract illustration and color pallet, specially developed for the project. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? DK: The client already made the name. It consists of words 'Bliss' and 'Thai', and together they read as 'shine' in Russian. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? DK: Calligraphy: brush-pen. Photoshop and Illustrator. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? DK: Lettering, abstract illustrations, color pallet. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? DK: No. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? DK: Self-conducted desk study. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? DK: During the realization of the project, it was difficult to find a manufacturer of packaging, that meets quality requirements. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? DK: Got an invitation e-mail.
