Interview with Shadi Al Hroub at Wednesday 15th of May 2019

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
SA: The story behind revolution. Ships have played a major role in the Oman's ability to sail to the eastern and western hemispheres and stay in touch with the civilizations of the ancient world. The clean, hard and angular lines of the A icon and lines compliment the typeface selection.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
SA: To reflects of success, achievement and triumph. Associated with abundance and prosperity, luxury and quality, prestige and sophistication, value and elegance, affluence, material wealth and extravagance.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
SA: As a winning design I attend to expand it as much as possible from gallery to social events, and show case the design to my current and future clients.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
SA: To come up with the concept, around two weeks, the first week spend on research and sketches and the second was to develop the idea.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
SA: Well, Each of us is responsible for protecting the company’s interests, As creative director my duties was to blow clients mind, therefore I have to do what i'm good with.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
SA: The design was produced for a client considering the huge budget of the company as investment firm.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
SA: Frankly, the client challenge us to create one shot award winning design, even he already own design agency. So I accepted the challenge and we sold it to him.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
SA: Thinking of simplicity of the concept match my model of simple is beautiful.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
SA: CEOs and startups firms

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
SA: Simplicity of the concept.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
SA: Saj is an ancient Arabic name means wood used in shipbuilding.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
SA: Adobe Creative Cloud tools.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
SA: The concept of Saj logo explores the symbolism and history and their association to the cultural relevance. Saj investment logo portrays the four pioneered components through the compass, wood, waves and shining icons.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
SA: Well, I work remotely with team based in Oman, so they meet the clients to reflect what they looking for, then I do my part and back to them for presented to the clients again.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
SA: In design field, technology is major aspects in any design, but this particular one was only 25%.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
SA: Indeed the research was about the wood used in shipbuilding to reflect the logo portrays the four pioneered components through the compass, wood, waves and shining icons.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
SA: The client was insist to design a conceptual compass, and there are many shapes, so we have to make something unique.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
SA: I know this award from 2014, Its the best award ever that reflect the glory of design and the designers, therefore the effort i did in the design process was worth it to see it shine in such award.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
SA: For me every day I must learn something new or inspired by other shapes around us, this design helped me to focus on little things.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
SA: Thank you, well done is better than well said
