FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
IK: There was a certain research behing my idea. I have interviewed my friends and collegues, the ones who were married, and found out that their wedding rings usually could not stand the test of time. Their form becomes distorted because of the pressure exerted by the finger, the textured areas becomes worn-out and so on.
FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
IK: My main goal was to design virtually "indestructible" wedding rings. The main technological solution I found was to use titan. It is stronger than many grades of steel so the rings wouldn't deform.
FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
IK: I am currently extending the collection. The first examples of "industrial" earrings and a necklace are ready now.
FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
IK: About 3 months including the research time.
FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
IK: This design is produced by Alchemia jewellery, the company I own.
FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
IK: There was a request for non-traditional wedding rings so I desided to go beyond the conventional materials such as gold or silver.
FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
IK: Sure, when I conduct a research, it's mandatory to look through analogical products. So I've found a bunch of designs inspired by industrial aesthetics. That wasn't exactly a solution I was looking for (otherwise I would have to admin that my task is completed by someone else and shut the project down) but the designs I found had gave me some cues.
