Home > Winners > Design #77914 >Interview
Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Rucha Ghadge (RG) for A' Design Awards and Competition. You can access the full profile of Rucha Ghadge by clicking here. Access more information about the award winning design The Sisterhood Archives here.

Interview with Rucha Ghadge at Sunday 28th of July 2019

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
RG: I really wanted to create something that highlighted the past feminist journey of India.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
RG: The main idea was to pay homage to these wonderful women and make sure the postcards were relatable to today's audience.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
RG: I want to enter it in zine shows and the works which helps it reach a wider audience.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
RG: It took me 2-3 weeks.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
RG: It was actually commissioned for an event but was not selected as the final work because the client thought it to be too controversial.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
RG: No, I currently plan to sell it independently or through zine shows.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
RG: Millennial and post millennial people are the intended audiences.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
RG: I mostly worked on Photoshop and Illustrator for this.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
RG: The most challenging part of the project was honoring the legacy of these icons yet making them and their work relatable and relevant to the current generation without trivializing their efforts. Even more, since India is such a censored country, my efforts to get the work published and/or sold have been met with refusals by companies as they are afraid of backlash from associating with anything that uses a religious symbols or pictures of goddesses.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
RG: I was informed by my mentor and faculty member of my college to take part in this award.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
