Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Adeodaat Erik Rozema (AR) for A' Design Awards and Competition. You can access the full profile of Adeodaat Erik Rozema by clicking here. Access more information about the award winning design Coffee here.

Interview with Adeodaat Erik Rozema at Thursday 14th of March 2019

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
AR: The main principle is that I could design a nice piece of furniture to which I could link the maiden name of my deceased mother. The idea was to design a table. The inspiration of the design comes from the A of the Adeo design logo. The appearance of the A had to come back and be recognizable in the design. And so you see that on the two front sides.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
AR: The main focus was to reduce the A of the Adeo design logo to a sexy shape in the totality of the design. By tilting the lower round part of the A back to the top of the coffee table, you create the possibility to rotate the table 180 degrees to mount a round wooden or glass top. The design of the table remains the same with a different appearance.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
AR: The future plans for this design and the entire collection of this series are to bring them to the international furniture market. Because I believe 100% that the entire table collection can be added value and can be combined with other special furniture brands.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
AR: free quickly and could continue to create a real collection of tables with the same shape

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
AR: After the death of my mother in 2015, I decided to continue her maiden name in a design that she would be proud of. It inspired me, therefore, to design a special table with great love for the profession, and to have it realized and used for the international furniture market.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
AR: In the meantime prototypes have been made and these have yet to be fine-tuned. Would like to market it under an own label. But possibly also be open to bring it to another brand.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
AR: Because I have the love for the profession and would like to have a nice piece of furniture in the market that makes everyone happy. And that everyone sees that this design and model can last for years in the private market and in the project market.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
AR: No not really. I did show my design to Sander Stout of the company "Stout lighting" and asked what he thought about it. He thought this was a sexy model and asked me when it would come on the market.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
AR: private and project market

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
AR: That the design is simply different from the somewhat safe commercial designs. And it has a two-sided function when you turn the coffee table 180 degrees and place a round top on it.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
AR: I wanted to continue the maiden name of my deceased mother in a design. Ultimately, the design was further developed into a complete table collection. It means that every model in this whole table collection bears the name of my family. And this coffee table bears the name of my son Jazz.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
AR: In the beginning with pencil and paper to make rough sketches then processed in 3D in SketshUp Pro and later in Atlantis Studio.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
AR: The most unique aspect is that the appearance of the A from the Adeo design logo is the carrier of the complete design, which immediately creates an idiosyncratic shape.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
AR: I did not work together with anyone for this design. In order to realize the table, I did speak with the technical staff of furniture factory "Artisan" to see if it was technically possible to manufacture all the designs of the entire collection in wood.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
AR: The role of technology of this design, that wood is connect!

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
AR: There has been no specific research into this design. It arose from a passion for design and the urge to design a beautiful piece of furniture that could bear the name of my deceased mother. Then show impressions through the social network channels to create a response.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
AR: That the degree of difficulty of the entire solid wooden coffee table on the inside could be sanded and varnished well like the rest of the outside of the table.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
AR: I received an invitation via email to hand in a unique interior design at an international design competition such as A 'Design Award and Competition. And because I have never participated in similar design competitions and want to see this as a measure of my creativity, I have decided to participate.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
AR: Actually, I still learn every day. And with this design I learned to view the table in many angles so that it became clear how the overall appearance would be.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
AR: Yes, you could have asked why I would have chosen a specific material. The answer is that I chose wood because I think wood is a nice pruduct and a natural product.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
