Interview with Mateus Morgan at Monday 18th of February 2019

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
MM: The main inspiration was the disruption of everyday elements such as marble and concrete.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
MM: The idea was to bring the feeling of lightness that the product needed, using the floating elements in a round and smooth way to achieve this goal. At the same time these elements serve to focus on the main image.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
MM: The idea is to create a series, with other elements and bringing greater daring.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
MM: Approximately one month between concept and conclusion.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
MM: It emerged as a need to show something new to the customer, even if it had not been requested. As well as showing the potential of 3D modeling techniques and their versatility.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
MM: Initially it appeared as a personal proposal, but due to the repercussion the client wants to use in their graphic materials in the near future.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
MM: I live in a city that is considered the capital of man´s footwear, wanted to show the customer and other potential as 3D can help in advertising the materials.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
MM: The main inspiration came from the artist Oleg Morozov and his abstract style. So did Roman Bratschi and Peter Tarka.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
MM: The main brands of footwear live and the world.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
MM: The simple design and the ability of the image to expose the product without being appealing negatively.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
MM: It is simply the direct description of what the image proposes.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
MM: I used 3ds Max for modeling, Vray for rendering and Photoshop for retouching.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
MM: The quality of the product 3D model itself.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
MM: Some people that helped was: Caique Fernando, Carlos Eduardo Rosa and Otávio Silveira.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
MM: Serve as a visual key for all graphic material related to the product.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
MM: The research was very natural and based simply on the feeling and previous experiences.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
MM: The main challenge was to leave the product in a natural way but at the same time bring the beauty that the product has.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
MM: It was through an invitation received and after noticing the size of the competition and mainly the challenge of winning something so great.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
MM: I learned how to better plan my time and division of tasks from start to finish. I also learned how to better balance the balance between natural beauty.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
MM: I am happy for the repercussion of the art and to participate in such a great competition. I hope have several more.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
