Interview with Fernando Pastre Fertonani at Thursday 23rd of May 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? FP: The future of racing cars. Thinking about that nowadays is not anymore the technology that limits the machine, but the human factor. What if we remove the pilot from the car? What if it could be remoted piloted? FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? FP: To achieve an essencial design, clean but at the same time aggressive. A new shape approach and architecture to racing cars, thinking how it could look like without the need of a room for a pilot. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? FP: Develop it even more with technical aspects. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? FP: One month. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? FP: I designed it exclusively as a car for the presentation of my studio to the world. It was a good way to shock with a concept. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? FP: Technology companies and racing companies. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? FP: Its sculptural and clean shapes. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? FP: N.01 stands for NOI(studio name) 01(first project). FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? FP: Hand sketching, photoshop and 3d modeling software. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? FP: The possibilities it brings to the races and to where this sport can go in the future. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? FP: Technical development, such as remote piloting, electric powertrain technology and body development. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? FP: The design was mostly influenced by technical researches regarding electric cars powertrains. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? FP: The innovation and the challenge to make something clean and minimal but not poor. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? FP: It had a really good acceptance by the media and the public when it was released on internet. It was featured in lots o websites, including design reference ones. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? FP: I learned a lot of surface research and refined my perception about communicating things with surfaces.
