Interview with Faldo Andreo at Saturday 6th of April 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? FH: This design is inspired by the story of creation mythology of Yggdrasil and its 9 realms. It took the landscape contour as an advantage and put the entrance from upper side of the hill. The floor plan of top level is taken from the image of root which ended up to 9 individual buildings as the image of 9 realms. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? FH: User experience. Which in this case are the staying guests to experience entirely different from another oceanview villas. As they stepped from the entrance, guests are welcomed by a non-disrupted wide ocean view as they walk through the skybridge to reach their units. The building it selves has cylindrical form which has all around scenery. A story to tell and share. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? FH: I hope this can be a big contribution in architecture and reached by guests all around the world. An accommodation which cannot be found anywhere else. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? FH: It took a total of 3 months in concept and another month to finalize from feedback and discussion with the developer. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? FH: Actually there is no boundaries nor limitations by the developer, but I did some research and bridging it with their goals. Which looking to the aspect of surroundings, land topography, budget considerations and actual realization. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? FH: I am producing this design specifically for this property developer, on this land and for this project. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? FH: I am asked to design this particular design by the client. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? FH: No. Since originality is very important for me and I believe, especially commercial area/ hospitality, need to be something new that can't be found and felt anywhere else. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? FH: This villas is designed to complement the main hotel at Tanjung Siung Lombok, Indonesia. A place that will host international events and multi-sport events. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? FH: It is really rare to find something like this as architecture is tailored made for on particular project, concept, market and land. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? FH: The name is given by the company as it is the commercial name for this place. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? FH: I am using multiple tools for this particular project to achieve the best of it. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? FH: The skybridge that connects entrance to each individual villas. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? FH: I am discussing this with the property developer team to get a good synchronization as this is will be a part of a large scale project. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? FH: Technology helps in planning, achieve good results in presentation, creating simulations and to accurately assess for actual realization. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? FH: It is the same as doing every architecture project which need assessing existing data such as topographic, land measurements and etc before stepping to the next stage. It is required data analysis and research study to determine the best possible result. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? FH: As this design needs to fit with other buildings as one big project, it requires good synchronization between each other and creating a good harmony. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? FH: As this design is made for international guests, international design competitions could help in international recognition/ awareness. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? FH: As it requires more advanced results in planning and presentation, this design forced me to learn new software and develop myself to be creative in using multiple software.
