Interview with Fabio Su at Tuesday 22nd of October 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? FS: We believes that the profundity and significance of space live in the sustainability derived from the unity of interrelated and codependent human, space, and environment. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? FS: I focus on the owner’s privation the most. Also try to design a wide and free space and figure out how to break out the boundary between indoor and outdoor. This is the main point which I want to express in this case. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? FS: I am so honor to win this title. In the future, I hope to do more public services for society base on the reputation given from this prize. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? FS: Form inspiration and discussion to blanket accomplishment, we spend about three years. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? FS: This case is entrusted by client and base on his needing we brainstorm. Due to the process of brainstorming, we pursue the concept we want to express. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? FS: The design cases are planned and designed by our company and then corporate with manufacture to carry out the projects. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? FS: I think when you meet the client who is trust in you 100%. It’s the time you should display your design ability. This is the reason pushing me to create this opus. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? FS: I believe the excellent opus, great designer and professional manufacture are connected. Thought the study, communication and learn from each other can make us better. Gaudi is the master who influencing me the most. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? FS: Gaudi has too many opuses. There are so many opuses just in Barcelona. Such as, Sagrada Familia and Park Güell. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? FS: the result, I design the light brighten in the open space to cover the insufficiency of lacking light in the indoor building. Because of this design, the view in the open space could be shown in the indoor building. This is the most different part from the normal structure. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? FS: Software such as, Cad, SketchUp, Lumion and SUPodium. Hardware such as, computer, measuring tools, tool box and magazines. Inspiration comes from everywhere such as, products in the market, cloud and mountain. Everything can be the source of creativity. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? FS: With an audacious and eco-friendly design way, the designer uses the skill of origami to design the wall. The ground is paved with eco-friendly material that the rain drops can easily penetrate the ground so as to keep the soil moisture and we also use the same skill on the top of building to insulate the heat and make the house breathable. The materials apply to the building are not added with extra adornment, they use plain color and recycle materials to FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? FS: I corporate with many professional technic members. Such as, we corporate with a professional AI company in this case. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? FS: AI takes an important role in this case. Such as, the switch of curtain, the operation of robot vacuum, the switch of air-condition and remote control and monitoring system. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? FS: We do have the data analysis which can help us no matter on the level of light brighten or owner’s habits. Due to the data we could design the suitable house for the owner. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? FS: Design is always the ideal. If we want to achieve the ideal, budget could be a problem for us and so do the techniques. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? FS: When I have a great opus, I tend to show to the public. Because I hope to make more and more people understand my design concept. This is why I joy the competition and I will do it again and again in the future. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? FS: I met the different problems in every case. The way we overcame the challenges made us better and better. Every customer we met also changes our idea and behavior. This is what makes me improve constantly. As the saying goes, live and learn. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? FS: I think you can have the imaginary constantly by feeling and observing everything in life. The style of design is your life experiences.
