Interview with Dr Scott Mayson at Thursday 26th of April 2018 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? SM: To create a design that exemplified the racing career of Larry Perkins. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? SM: An abstracted design that championed materials in F1 and advanced Motorsport. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? SM: It is a perpetual trophy that will be awarded to future generations of supercar drivers at Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? SM: It was a 6 week project. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? SM: The design was commissioned by the Australian Grand Prix Corperation. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? SM: This design is specific to an annual event at Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? SM: It was a commissioned creative work. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? SM: No. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? SM: Racing car drivers. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? SM: It is named after one of Australia’s most famous Formula 1 and Touring Car Champions, Larry Perkins. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? SM: This design utilised advanced 3d titanium Printing technologies.
