Interview with Gudao Design Studio at Thursday 26th of April 2018 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? GD: The starting point for the project is when dressing in front of a coat rack, people often want to sort out the collar or the cap in a mirror. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? GD: It is a coat rack can make people dressing in the mirror just in front of it. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? GD: We want to massivelly produce and market it in this year later. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? GD: It takes us nearly 3 weeks to design. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? GD: It seems unnecessary to have a mirror on the coat rack as there is a single mirror around habitually, but this mirror will just meet the needs of consumers to adjust themselves after dressing, through this details can represent the intimate and warm of this product. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? GD: We plan to sell or lease the production rights to other companies. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? GD: When dressing in front of a coat rack, people often want to sort out the collar or the cap in a mirror. This is a subconscious behavior, what we are looking for and solve is this kind of psychological activity. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? GD: People who has limited space at home. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? GD: Bright Mirror is a coat rack can make people dressing in the mirror just in front of it. It has enough hanging bars can not only hang hats, but also hang accessories like bags and umbrellas. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? GD: It comes from Chinese culture. "Bright mirror" means the mirror is not only for apperence or dressing but also for spirit and soul. We hope this product can make people self-examination and behave better in front of it. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? GD: freehand sketching and Rhino FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? GD: Bright Mirror is a coat rack can make people dressing in the mirror just in front of it. It has enough hanging bars can not only hang hats and coats, but also hanging accessories like bags and umbrellas. It is a lightweight product mainly composed of plastic pipe with plastic, easy to move in the room and conveniently disassemble and assemble. Also people can change the paint color to meet different environmental needs. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? GD: Type of material: steel pipe with powder coating,ABS molding FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? GD: At the beginning of designing Bright Mirror, we studied different types of coat racks. Not only to meet the user's subconscious behavior of looking in the mirror, but also to satisfy quickly and easily installation, taking into account the product’s appearance, weight, transportation, sturdiness and so on. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? GD: Our challenge is to design a coat rack that can be quickly installed and easy to transport. Also it satisfies the user's subconscious behavior with simple and stable structure. To give consumers the maximum convenience and independent installation of the clothes rack, the whole installation process only needs four screws, without any other equipment, it can be assembled quickly, conveniently and safely. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? GD: As we want to promote our brand and studio all over the world, we attend this competition to develop the interest. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? GD: It seems unnecessary to have a mirror on the coat rack as there is a single mirror around habitually, but this mirror on the hanger will just meet the needs of consumers to adjust themselves in a mirror after dressing, through this details can reflect the intimate and warm of this product. This design idea is turning unconscious behavior into the visible thing, namely Without Thought.
