Interview with Julia Chernenko (Leta Che) at Monday 23rd of April 2018

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
JC: I was inspired by the sonorous name of the brand. In this name I saw an image of funny wool owl. I created sound interaction between the name and slogans and the brand character, which changes the length of the socks.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
JC: Was developed a form of packaging for retail sails of socks, a mailing tape for standard postal parcels suitable for any clothes for sending by mail after ordering through at online store and creative communication of the brand with the consumer, which will further develop for other wool products of the brand. Socks are produced in Russia, and the brand is planned to sell in Finland. Therefore, to send socks from the online store was developed a simpler version of the package, which can be sent by post.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
JC: The owners of the brand — Catherine Atapina . Studied in Haaga-Helia ammattikorkeakoulu. She found high-quality production of wool socks in Russia and decided to organize her brand on its basis. The first products are planned to be sold with the original design of the manufacturer. In the Russian market, such socks are already sold under other brands, so Catherine decided to sell them in Finland, and then based on the design and creative communication idea of the brand create a unique line of wool clothes.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
JC: 2 months were spent on the project.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
JC: Was created sound interaction between the name and slogans on packaging. All communication aims to maximize the memorability of wool owl that will not leave anyone indifferent. The first Cool Wool products are socks which change their length in prints on packaging. Some words in several well-known phrases were changed to accentuate attention on the woolen quality of the product. For internet shop with delivery by post was produced a private brand mailing tape with a post owl instead of a dove. Now brand has it's own Wool Post

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
JC: During the development of the brand and packaging, I realized that the best among the gift packages sold personalized or personified packages, thats why the brand character became the image of the Cool Wool brand and the communication goes from the first-person. In the future, for different wool products, the character will change clothes, so the goods will differentiate.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
JC: No

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
JC: All people aged 15 to 40

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
JC: Creative communication idea

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
JC: Ai, Ps, Canon 500d

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
JC: Sound interaction between the name and slogans.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
JC: All work was made by myself

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
JC: Just decided to try

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
