Interview with Antonia Skaraki at Monday 11th of November 2019 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? AS: The magic of bee hives and Art Deco have been the main inspiration behind this regal and lavish design. Every centimeter of the packaging for Melodi honey shouts sophistication; that’s why you expect a top-quality honey to be waiting inside! FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? AS: Honey is one of nature's most valuable sweet treats, so it certainly deserves to get special treatment when it comes to packaging. My team wanted to create minimal –but premium, sophisticated and classy– packaging that would be an ode to honey, evoking an authentic and artisanal feeling. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? AS: Honey is increasingly recognized as a highly versatile, multifunctional ingredient. Consequently, anyone who understands its beneficial impact on our health is a target consumer for this design. The goal was also to appeal to a new generation of honey lovers, to young people who are interested in healthy nutrition. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? AS: Glimmering gold and bronze hues that instantly grab the attention of consumers make the MELODI Honey stand out. Some foodies out there could refer to honey as “a gold treasure” and the MELODI honey packaging would definitely agree! FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? AS: The creative idea, aka the concept that has made this honey packaging a huge success. Concepts drive “un-BEE-leavable” creativity! FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? AS: Bees are eternal symbols of teamwork; and the A.S. Advertising team (designers and copywriters) had to collaborate in a similar, harmonious way in order to create such a great design! The result of team collaboration is almost always a better product. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? AS: The MELODI honey packaging holds a product that hails all the way from the Greek Island of Crete where it is collected. We made a thorough research on the importance of honey and explored the reasons why Cretan honey is superior to others. A research on the best eco-friendly materials was necessary too; there is more to these glass jars than just their timeless aesthetics. They are reusable and their uses are nearly endless!
