Interview with Uniqa Creative Engineering at Monday 23rd of April 2018 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? UC: The main idea behind this design is to use material as a visual metaphor for strength. Corrugated metal is meant to communicate both the high ABV of this beer and its relation to masculinity. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? UC: The main aim of this design was making the product stand out on the shelf and differentiate itself from the competitors. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? UC: Just celebrate it! FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? UC: Time flashed by! FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? UC: Our agency was commissioned by Heineken Russia to create this design. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? UC: This design is currently being produced by Heineken Russia. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? UC: The target audience for this design can be described as strong, conservative, masculine men, who like fishing, hunting and sharing a beer with friends. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? UC: Corrugated metal solution. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? UC: The bright idea to show beer’s high ABV via visually recognizable and firm material – structure and pattern of corrugated metal. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? UC: Execution was a real challenge as it had to be closely supervised by our technical experts. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? UC: We thought it could be nice to show it to the international design community as Russian designs haven't been in sight that often in the past years.
