Interview with Elena Whitermore at Tuesday 1st of May 2018

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
EW: The design is inspired by graphic illustrations, that in flat form och simple geometry just by color, form and position represents an idea, vision of things.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
EW: The main focus was - to make it look beautiful - to make this beauty practical - and to look at the circle bag from another construction decision.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
EW: The future plans is to present the Drop bag collection and to develop it to the brand, as it has a lot of potential. A lot.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
EW: It took about on week to develop the concept and make a sample and about two months to test different ways to make it perfectly and create all other samples of cillection

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
EW: let me call it like that: this design choose me to be made)

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
EW: ASD is made by me and it is developing in a moment. A bit early to talk about how it would be.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
EW: I like working with leather and I like doing bags.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
EW: I like to everything myself.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
EW: The target group for that product is young people, that like to have something different in the style. Other models cal also be good for whose who is a bit older and likes clean minimalistic elegance.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
EW: The design has an unique construction. Outside it is round but inside it is square and it helps to keep the insides in order, where all thing are not gravitating to the one point as it happens in ordinary constructed round bags.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
EW: The drop on a frukt. This is what the "illustration" represents.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
EW: I was working not only with standard Adobe program, I used Artios Cad to make the construction, cutting table to make patterns, splitting and skiving machines, sewing machine and some other tools.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
EW: It is simple, minimalistic and att the same time unusual.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
EW: I was not working with anybody during making this design but the bad was made in leather goods factory Nyström Stockholm.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
EW: The main role. If the bag is not done in special technology, ti will not be the same bag.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
EW: Mostly not. If you are up dated with last trends and news you vision is itself a data of analytical research.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
EW: As it happens all the time with the designs - 1 mm plus, 1 mm minus to make till all work perfectly.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
EW: The design was good. I was taking part in other competitions before so I´ve heard about it and I did it.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
EW: I think I should pay more attention to description and all these things. The design seems clear for me and the good design seems clear for all but to describe is important as well.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
EW: Thanks to the jury for high scores!

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
