Interview with Vicky Chan at Friday 7th of April 2017

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
VC: Horse, Nature and Science

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
VC: Making Horse, Nature and Science as part of our enjoyment in a theme park

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
VC: Promoting this design to more theme park clients.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
VC: 6 months

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
VC: It was originally a design competition.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
VC: We have interested clients in China planning to make a version of this design.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
VC: We are interested in Master Planning and the sustainable impact of a large city.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
VC: We look at nature more than artificial design.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
VC: People interested in Eco-tourism.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
VC: We are the only theme park that promotes eco-friendly design. Most other parks in Asia promote thrill and fantasy.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
VC: We were interested in fast and slow like a horse. We want to create an utopia for horses and human. Horsetopia - Run Fast/Live Slow combined all the ideas.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
VC: Rhino, 3dsmax, Photoshop, illustrator

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
VC: We will be the first theme park to promote eco-friendly design.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
VC: We have engineers, landscape architects, lighting expert, business and marketing experts.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
VC: We combined wind turbine with locally salvaged wood to create a wind tower for observation. It is a true combination of art and science.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
VC: Yes. We have earth removal analysis, wood carbon sequestration analysis, water analysis, electricity and wind calculation.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
VC: The removal of trees becomes challenging but also an opportunity for carbon sequestration

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
VC: We want to show the design to more global clients

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
VC: We rely more on scientific data to make an convincing design based on research and numbers.
