Interview with Ingrid Kulper at Sunday 30th of April 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? IK: I did look for a solution to be able to offer customers a multifunktional rug easy to cover even on large areas. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? IK: I wanted the rug to easy to transport. The components now can now be easily stackedand even be raplaced when soiled. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? IK: I like to continue with designing many different variations of this concept. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? IK: Difficult for me to say as the design went through different stages. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? IK: The design was not commisioned. In the past I did have problems with very large rugs to manage transportation. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? IK: I always produce my designs through my own company. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? IK: In most of my designs I get inspired by geometry and nature which was also the inspiration with this particular design. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? IK: The contract market, hotels and private customers. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? IK: I believe that this concept is different in the sense that each component is easy to replace as no glue is used to make the parts stay in place. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? IK: Jigzaw Stardust means small pieces like dust in the wind. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? IK: Illustrator, scissors and a ruler mainly. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? IK: Yes my daughter helped med a lot as she is very skiled with using Adobe illustrator. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? IK: Through a very kind invitation by email.
