Interview with Natsuyo Ozawa at Monday 27th of March 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? NO: The main principle of this design is functionality as the popcorn package. Not just stuff in popcorn, more advanced that consider about several use scenes of this product. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? NO: How much eat elegantly. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? NO: a. I would like to sell this design to existing premium popcorn brand. b. I would like to design more sweets package, like this! FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? NO: For the concept, I took approximately 2 weeks. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? NO: I designed this in the package design class project. And I choose popcorn package because I went to movie theater while I thinking this project idea, and when I bought popcorn in the theater, I felt awkward share the popcorn with my friend. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? NO: I would like to sell this design to existing premium popcorn brand. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? NO: Since I was teenager, I love to cook sweets myself and gift to my friends. Beside that hobby, naturally, I start to package design myself as pursuit level. Therefore, not only design package, I prefer to put some messages in my sweets and package to give pleasure to my friends. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? NO: My teacher advice me while I design this package. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? NO: Anyone who purchase premium popcorn. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? NO: This package is not only functionally but also fashionable. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? NO: This naming comes from the feeling when people have popcorn. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? NO: Adobe Illustrator CS5 FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? NO: The gold ribbon! This is not only convenient to carry, this is the key to pulling up inside popcorn. And point color of this design. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? NO: All I did myself. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? NO: water well or elevator. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? NO: I just researched myself existing premium popcorn packages. But I couldn't find something functionally design or good to eat elegantly. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? NO: It was difficult to cut wave part of the lid. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? NO: My teacher courage to us to apply any competitions, so, I would like to respond to my teacher's expectation. And I really like this design myself. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? NO: For the package design, paper thickness is quite important.
