Interview with Eleni Tezapsidou at Wednesday 15th of March 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? ET: Simplicity combined with a hint of luxury. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? ET: To provide a different form in the shape of a ring. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? ET: To promote its mass production. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? ET: The time required for this design was approximately a month. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? ET: It was a flash of inspiration after a lot of research on geometrical forms which I love. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? ET: I intend to produce my work myself. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? ET: A customer's need to wear a very special type of ring. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? ET: No , it was my personal work. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? ET: Someone who seeks something unusual and new in the jewellery shapes and works. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? ET: The rhombic section of the base of the ring and the stones set sideways in the metal itself. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? ET: It was a friend's recommedation. The name itself, describes what is the pain of longing of a return. Two faces looking at different directions yet their connection is strong, and they try to meet again somehow. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? ET: Pencil and paper. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? ET: Its geometrical shape. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? ET: I have been working in the jewellery business so I have my own workshop where the ring was made. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? ET: In order to be made in a large number of items, techology is the only mean of production. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? ET: The only research made was while trying to choose a geometrical form that would suit the shape of a ring. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? ET: The sharp edges of the base and the absolute symmetry that I wanted to achieve. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? ET: I wanted to have an international recognition on my work. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? ET: I learned a lot on making this ring. You are always happy to face new challenges when you make a new piece of jewellery. The most interesting was the shape that was so different from anything that i have encoutered so far, as well as the setting of the stones. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? ET: It is a satisfaction to design something and then to see it live, in metal.
