Interview with Hyunje Joo at Saturday 22nd of April 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? HJ: All my designs are made through the context of the city. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? HJ: I want to increase the density of the city through design. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? HJ: I will continue to challenge like now. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? HJ: This design was designed for six months. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? HJ: I was awarded an open artist competition. So I went to design. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? HJ: If people need it, they can sell the material. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? HJ: I study the boundaries of space using transparent materials. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? HJ: I was greatly influenced by the architect Max Dudler FS: Who is the target customer for his design? HJ: Design for everyone. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? HJ: I am experimenting with building and art using new materials. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? HJ: It means a huge canvas in which people can draw thoughts. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? HJ: Transparent basket FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? HJ: Production Partners FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? HJ: The durability of pvc was studied and supplemented. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? HJ: Naturally, the budget amount is fixed FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? HJ: I wanted to let you know. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? HJ: I learned to scale the imagination to reality.
