Interview with Vlad Mititelu at Tuesday 7th of March 2017

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
VM: I was inspired by the idea of creating an experience for the user: by keeping a musical instrument right at the core of my design I believe that I succeed my goal.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
VM: The main focus was keeping a trumpet shape for the shower.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
VM: Reaching a broad audience who is inspired by my designs.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
VM: This particular project took me about seven months to be developed and one month to build it.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
VM: I felt inspired by an extra-sensorial experience and I wanted to convert it into a real object.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
VM: I am not sure about mass production in this particular design and still I am opened to production proposals.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
VM: Mostly, this type of works characterise me as a designer.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
VM: No

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
VM: People who identify themselves with this type of design and feel that my product reflects their own life style.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
VM: I think almost every aespect of this particular design sets it apart from other products. Its unique shape, the copper wire finish, the inspiring disjuncture between its form and the actual function.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
VM: The name of this design relates to a particular genre of music that inspired me to create it. Moreover, the trumpet is a symbol for this music genre.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
VM: The shape and the surface finish.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
VM: During this project I have colaborated with plumbers who helped me develop the technical mechanism.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
VM: Research of key features in art and design.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
VM: To convert the shape of an actual music instrument into a usable shower, to oversize and rethink its shape so it can function properly and intuitively even in limited spaces.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
VM: I came across A design Award a couple years ago and I felt inspired by it.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
