Interview with Yu-Ting Wang, Chien-Hsing Chen at Wednesday 26th of April 2017

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
YW: This design is located in the Taichung, the owners themselves want to embrace their spirit of enterprise into the design: novelty, environment-friendly, open-minded.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
YW: As understanding the spirit of enterprise of the firm, the design to use a multi-functional way, that the space can be used to transform for all type of space usage to do the extension of the space.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
YW: I am planning to share the award with the client and let them showing their clients of their award winning space.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
YW: We took around 4 months to finish the design part.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
YW: The space was surrounded by glasses on both sides, the first we thought we wanted to design a modern Glerie Des Glaces and we wanted to adapt the surrounding and the space's reflection into the open area. We want people entering the space not only just seeing the design but also can see the reflection from different angles to see things in many different ways, just like we wanted the space is not only for a purpose.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
YW: We intend to produce the work ourselves.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
YW: As we worked with the firm for the past few projects, we were inspired by thoughts of the CEO and together we created the design work.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
YW: The target customer for this design is wide range, from the people who enjoy the musical to the clients of the firm.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
YW: We were influenced by Glerie Des Glaces, which art is a common language from past till now a days.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
YW: On walls, due to its a concept of Gallery Glaces, we used mainly grey and black mirrors to add on reflections and enhance to enlarge the site. The hanging mirrors are made by stainless steel frame and glass to make it look like floating glasses hanging from ceiling. The mirrors shows different views, also means that we can see things not only from one side, it is also related to our daily life.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
YW: The clients is very thought for for the environment as they are working in the fabric business. This project is also joining the LEED scoring, therefore from the start making decision for materials we have to think through carefully. As our main concern is to use less amount of construction materials and make the most usage of them, just like our main design brief, to be multi-functional and the Gallery Glaces to see materials in different ways, we used mirrors as the main material in the site. It has different view when we look at it at different angles, and it reflects different materials on it, to make the site more interesting and using less materials.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
