Interview with Dongguan GAFA C&C Institute at Thursday 6th of April 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? WH: The bottom of the sea contains the most complex and meticulous structures in nature, and the shapes of sea life is a perfect unity of art and nature. I'm going to express such marine creatures' unique aesthetic structures and beauty through our designs. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? WH: I chose some particular creatures under the sea, and I try to express their elegant and lovely shapes. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? WH: I'm preparing to modify some details of the design and going to realize it on the market. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? WH: Around 6 months. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? WH: I always believe that nature is the best tutor. Every creature has its most beautful structure. And this time I try to design jewelry for the undersea world. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? WH: Welcome different kinds of coorperation. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? WH: 3D printing FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? WH: I don't think so. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? WH: The structures of the marine creatures are complex and mysterious, it's difficult to observe their real living status, and the traditional molding tech is also hard to realize such ruleless and complicated design, so we referred to many kinds of research findings and try to use the 3D printing tech in this project. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? WH: A' Design Award is one most professional competition in the world, it's an honor to win this award for a designer. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? WH: Design is an interesting thing, I enjoy it and I love it.
