Interview with Maik Juch at Thursday 27th of April 2017

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
MJ: The plan was to design a freestanding waschtisch with a certain self-evident. I then let myself be guided by the idea of ​​a tree house.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
MJ: The thought of combining something unnatural with natural and thus making it self-evident. I wanted to bring more generosity and calm into

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
MJ: It is planned this concept which belongs to a series belongs to a suitable manufacturer.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
MJ: The waschtlich itself with some details only a few weeks. For the whole furniture 1 year.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
MJ: I decided to follow my inspiration.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
MJ: Ideal for us would be the sale of production rights. However, we produce with at the moment on order with a partner.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
MJ: I wanted to do it.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
MJ: There is not any.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
MJ: My target group are people who keep it tidy and minimal, but also appreciate a certain naturalness in this context

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
MJ: In principle the high processing quality, the very balanced materialmix and its easy comprehensibility.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
MJ: The name "thinX" is explained by the frame. The slender crushing of the legs to an X.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
MJ: Mine and then digitally implemented with adobe and cinema.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
MJ: A unique feature is probably the cross of the frame. It does not run past each other, as it is usually done, it runs into each other again to open like the branches of a tree.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
MJ: After the design process I worked with a friendly carpentry. These have established and produced the feasibility and stability.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
MJ: No the design is not influenced by research. It is only adapted to the daily usability and simplifies cleaning and storage of required articles.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
MJ: Statics and weight were probably the greatest challenges, since we wanted to make it as easy as possible, in parallel we also decided on heavy materials.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
MJ: That was not hard, we thought the design was excellent. They have confirmed this to us. :)

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
MJ: I think that one learns with every design and evolves in any form, since this also makes no exception.
