Interview with Ronald Scliar Sasson at Monday 20th of February 2017

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
RS: The design is an armchair with apparent wooden structure making a connotation to the Bauhaus school.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
RS: The main focus was to counterpose a light and apparent wood structure with a large and important armchair.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
RS: Viable the project in the European territory, through factories or stores.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
RS: From the original design to the final design were used 6 months.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
RS: This particular design is an old design that I wanted to manufacture a long time ago, and only now I had the possibility.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
RS: It is already being manufactured by a Brazilian company, but if any company in Europe wants to take over production this proposal will be analyzed.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
RS: I follow the criterion of trait and I am faithful to this style by prerrogativa of profession

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
RS: No, it's a completely solo project.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
RS: People who like design with few elements and minimalist.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
RS: The external structure in apparent wood and the aesthetic design in the form of seat fit.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
RS: It is a tribute to an Argentine artist, who lived in Brazil for many years and adopted it as his second nation.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
RS: Center of machining of five axes and conventional upholstery.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
RS: Economics in details.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
RS: Engineering team of the factories involved in the project.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
RS: Fundamental for accurately executing the wooden structure.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
RS: The research I always do before any project involves purpose, criterion and style.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
RS: Difficulty of execution for the structure to resist the weight of the seat without compromising aesthetics.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
RS: I have always based my designs for the contest, because I have intellectual and commercial support in them.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
RS: Challenges in conducting thin wood folds without losing endurance.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
RS: No
