FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
SL: To get people to buy fire extinguishers in their homes. Making them as a design product.
FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
SL: I wanted the product to be adaptable, design that fits in many environment. Also as small as possible to prevent its size from becoming an barrier.
FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
SL: I think that such a product should be sold globally.
FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
SL: It is difficult to say when the idea begins and whether it is still ready. I developed several fire safety products at the same time. About a year.
FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
SL: I got angry, a long funny story. I was hooked to fight against the fire. More ideas are generated all the time more.
FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
SL: Currently I produce myself. But I am looking for appropriate co-operation partners.
FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
SL: There is nothing comparable on the market, based on our survey. And it is a protected invention.
FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
SL: A framed drawing which my child has drawn. I hid my fire blanket behind it many years before this project.
FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
SL: Everyone who cares
FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
SL: That is not similar or resembling concepts
FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
SL: Finishfire = Finish of the fire
FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
SL: Pen and paper and saw and photoshop
FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
SL: To create a three-dimensional for image indentation without welding.
FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
SL: In the production stage when the sheet was selected as a material Miska Saulivaara got involved.
FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
SL: The spray extinguisher FirePal Kitchen from GPBM Nordic OY (several other spray extinguisher fit as well like Tundra from Firs Alert) can be removed from the top of the frame or by opening the cabinet. FirePal Kitchen is a compact, efficient and easy to use extinguishing spray that can be used by all (children included). It is designed for extinguishing small fires (ABF). It also extinguishes electrical fires up to 1000V.
FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
SL: Yes, the fires caused by electricity have increased. Because of the rising use of numerous charging devices.
FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
SL: Designing is easy as compared to selling a product.
FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
SL: It's a good way to get attention
FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
SL: This is my first product I bring to the market. Every day I have learned something new. Patents, finance, marketing, logistics...
FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
SL: You do not need a law that tells you to think whit your brain. One item in the right place could save you or your family or even the entire apartment building.
