Interview with Samia Yousif at Sunday 30th of April 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? SY: Fairytales were the inspiration for this dress. From the choice of the fabric to the cut. The fabric is exceptional 100% silk from Italy, it is very soft and fluid, and the floral print is absolutely stunning. The pastel colors add to the softness of the look. It looks like it came straight out of a fairy tale. The bust is measured and made to provide as much coverage and the lower part has additional fabric to that allows it to flow. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? SY: To make the fabric stand out and to create a beautiful dress for summer or special occasions. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? SY: 3-4 months FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? SY: When i saw the fabric i decided to pursuit an inspiration. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? SY: Factory and production is in Romania FS: What made you design this particular type of work? SY: I wanted to make a very long flowing dress for tall women, to wear in heels or flats. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? SY: no FS: Who is the target customer for his design? SY: Tall women FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? SY: It is named after my sister who died when she was 11 years old. This dress was made in her honor. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? SY: Machine sewn. Materials used: Silk, polyester FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? SY: Comfort, functionality and timeless look are the key elements to the high-fashion inspired collections, working in a wide range of color pallets and fabrics as well as design style line. The collections are made up of structured and feminine separates as well as suits and dresses. For that added touch of luxury, the finest fabrics -whether from Switzerland, Italy, or elsewhere - have been carefully selected to care the most stringent demands of the modern woman. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? SY: The sample did not look as nice as the drawing so changes had to be made. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? SY: It had a high response from our customers FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? SY: That the design can change from drawing to conception, and that's ok.
