Interview with Daniela Komatovic at Tuesday 21st of February 2017

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
DK: The eye as a symbol, is one of the most commonly used symbols in history, which is the path to knowledge and wisdom. This symbol, which we know already from the Egyptian mythology has inspired me this time to design my jewelry collection Eye to the soul, which is not just a decoration, but also a talisman. The eye as a symbol associated with God Horus, which among other things is considered protector of people and their destiny.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
DK: Mainly, it was to meet the market demand for jewelry in various forms of protective symbols, and thereby to create a luxurious, elegant and timeless talisman, which will be different with its story from many other seen amulets.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
DK: I would like to present my collection Eye To The Soul in other European cities and to find new points of sale.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
DK: Amulet ring or pendant in the shape of an eye, I designed a 2 days and implemented within 14 days. To create a whole collection took me 3 months.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
DK: It is a combination of imagination, inspiration, as well as market demand. I wanted to create jewelry that has more features.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
DK: My design jewelry was designed for jewelry store Diamond Spot, but I plan on selling and spread to other outlets. In the moment jewelry manufactured at its own expense, but not against mass production. I do not intend to sell my copyright.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
DK: Love for jewelry, fashion, art and precious stones, I'd been discovered thanks to a husband who's gemologist.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
DK: No

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
DK: Lovers of luxurious design jewelry.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
DK: Conceptions of the eye as a symbol that the function of the protective amulet in the shape of a ring formed from pure geometric shape. Protection symbol is hidden in the shape of a ring. There is an eye which symbolizes the path to knowledge and wisdom and is a symbol of the god Horus, defender of human destiny.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
DK: Eye Amulet is ring or pendant in the shape of the eye, the symbol of the god Horus defender of human destiny with the function of the protective amulet. Jewelry comes from the collection, which is called Eye To The Soul. The eye will also symbolizes the path to wisdom and knowledge and says, eyes are more expressive than the mouth. As well as jewelry can say much about the person who wears it.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
DK: I used pencil, paper, scanner and computer.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
DK: Amulet ring or pendant in the shape of an eye, I designed a 2 days and implemented within 14 days. Create a whole collection took me 3 months.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
DK: No, I worked on this design all by myself.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
DK: The shape of the ring and embed 3 princess sapphires in the shape of cubes.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
DK: I have examined the symbols that serve to people as protection and the history associated with these symbols.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
DK: The big challenge to me was to handmade install 3 princess shaped sapphires in a form of a cube.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
DK: This competition was a challenge for me to find out what other people see with their eyes in my design.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
DK: I patiently learned to overcome obstacles and to hold firm after the first setback, which I paid off in the finale.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
DK: No.
