Flower+ Corporate Identity by Ada Wang

Home > Winners > Design #52332 >Interview
Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Ada Wang (AW) for A' Design Awards and Competition. You can access the full profile of Ada Wang by clicking here. Access more information about the award winning design Flower+ here.

Interview with Ada Wang at Tuesday 2nd of May 2017

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
AW: My principle is visualized image expression, so that the viewer can easily understand what the underlying product is. Design should not have people guess. The design inspiration comes from flowers, but this is an image that is very easily recognized by people.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
AW: This design project mainly concerns product printing, and in consideration of the influence of cost, normal printing technique is good enough. What I really care about is whether the image itself can impress people and create a unique visual effect.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
AW: I hope a corporate buyer may like it and is willing to buy.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
AW: It took me about two weeks from conception to completion.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
AW: This design is made initially by a commission from a customer. But I finally reserved this plan for the company, because it is a good design indeed.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
AW: Currently, my company owns all intellectual properties and right of use to this design, and I hope my customer may like it and is willing to buy. For this purpose, I can provide complete brand image design on the basis of design.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
AW: I would like to try different themes and expression methods, so I do not resist any particular form of design.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
AW: I get inspiration from many outstanding designers. Every time before I begin designing, I will see how others design it, which helps me with mine.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
AW: Flower product operators.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
AW: Among the design in relation to flowers, other designers tend to feminize their works in term of color or form, but I hope my design has more rigorous lines with delicate changes. In this way, the product may have a larger audience population.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
AW: I do all my designs with PHTOSHOIP.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
AW: In the design, I lay much importance to the calculation formula, because in the ancient times, science and arts are under a same discipline, so I would use calculation to determine the final image morphology. Instead, I do not rely on “feelings” to decide the design. If we take a careful look at animals and plants in the nature, we can find the number patterns behind their morphologies. This is the rule God creates the world.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
AW: As for design, I am good at working independently, but when it comes to the practical technological realization, I will hear opinions from professionals.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
AW: Data analysis and researches are a part of the initial market survey, and I will consult the data and information provided by the customer which should be in as much detail as possible. However, due to some restrictions, designers have little market information on hand, and in such cases, I would take market experiences of similar products as a reference. For example, I would try to understand the target consumers of similar products as well as their age, sex, educational background, work, family environment, salaries and purchasing power, because these factors will decide the final direction of design.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
AW: This design is not complicated in realization, so I did not face any special technological challenge

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
AW: At the beginning, I did not expect to join the international design competition, but simply reserved this design for the company in consideration of design itself. Later, I received an invitation e-mail for A’ Design Award and decided to take part. I hope to demonstrate that this is a design worthwhile to customers, because it is indeed beautiful and conforms with the market positioning and grade of product.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
AW: The biggest reward to me is that I learned that a good design can stand challenges and sometimes setback, but it does not mean everything is over. One can still win recognition from others by holding on to his standing and I must have confidence in myself.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
AW: No,Thanks

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
