Interview with Mhd Al Sidawi at Thursday 5th of April 2018 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? MA: Inspired by the moving flow and requirement of any space. Easy to carry, compact yet elegant folding chair with unique three-legged structure, can adapts to any space. Attractive finishes and strong for everyday events and great for unexpected guests. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? MA: My main focus was form and function, I was trying to design a attractive yet functional folding chair that can make this type of chair more elegant and characteristic. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? MA: My plan is to get recognized for now and hopefully I’ll be able to manufacture my full limited furniture set. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? MA: It was a side project after work and it took me around a month month from first sketch to final product. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? MA: As I mentioned before it was a personal project inspired by the classic folding chair. Just re-imagination with minimalist design. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? MA: I produced one sample of the chair but till now there is no any plan to sell or lease the design, I might used soon in one my studio projects. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? MA: Hmmmm, I think every designer is trying to find his own identity while he’s designing and all work come from vast range of inspirations, experiences, surrounding and etc, so each designer has his own package let’s say and that’s what make each one unique in a his own way. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? MA: No, but I was asking my wife and friends for feedback. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? MA: it can target residential use or events spaces. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? MA: identity. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? MA: From the function with a little bit tweak for marketing. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? MA: A4 and a pencil then 3ds Studio Max. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? MA: Identity and three-legged form. FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? MA: No. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? MA: Balance. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? MA: No there was no any research as a official research but during checking events spaces (Restaurants, Outdoor Events, or Religion spaces) both in local market and on internet there is a lake of identity and functionality of the furniture. And that was my trigger FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? MA: Balancing the chair and folding mechanism. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? MA: When I finished the design I decided that I want to put this project online, and a competition is the best way to so. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? MA: By not letting any detail for later on. FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions? MA: No, And thank you for this interview, and for any question or inquiries please do not hesitate to contact me throw my website or social media. And I’ll be more than happy to answer any question.
