Interview with Vyri Junhan Yang at Saturday 22nd of April 2017

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
VY: The idea of this collection is about the deconstruction and reorganization. Inspired by the city ruins I created the whole black collection.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
VY: I focus on the draping idea to built the collection.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
VY: This is the first time i'm in a competition, and i'm not sure about my next step. I'm looking for it.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
VY: The concept came fast and it's just about 2-3 days, but to translate the idea to the visual part took me a while.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
VY: I just like it and made it. Fashion is fast, so when i got something jumped into my mind i just make them.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
VY: No.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
VY: Everything about me. I feel like my design is a part of me, i use the visual tool to explain the part of me.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
VY: Not for this collection.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
VY: My designs start from a conceptual idea to build the narrative of a girl who is mysterious and confident yet soft and refined. She is strong but not rough, feminine but not girly. Those who understand her, and to an extension me, are important. Those who don’t are irrelevant. My girl has the courage to say goodbye to the past and not be pretentious, sentimental, or fragile. Through her inner emotion we can understand the new definition of beauty.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
VY: Everyone is unique.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
VY: It's just the concept of this collection.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
VY: Just the normal tools every fashion designer uses.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
VY: The way i explain the Concept.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
VY: I collaborate the fashion shooting part with the photographer, and we are best friends. we understand each others mind well, so i had really nice work time with him.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
VY: I have no idea, this is fashion.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
VY: No.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
VY: Control the fabric.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
VY: I just want to try.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
VY: Understanding to relationship of the patterns.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
VY: No.
