FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
AB: The ultimate idea of the project was to create a streamlined space, and to show the advantages of both visual beauty and of the functionality of such solutions.
FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
AB: The key focus was on utmost airiness, freedom from standard furniture and a bright colour design. Maximum airiness was achieved by combining the entrance hall and kitchen with the living room. An unusual furniture was the streamlined kitchen set with movable top cabinets rotatable about an axis. The colour design was built around a combination of white, black and bright yellow colours.
FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
AB: I want to participate with new projects and concepts, and my goal is to demonstrate object design.
FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
AB: This is a conceptual project, so the main customer was I myself. So, there were many design variants and solutions, especially colour ones. As a whole, the entire project was completed in two months. This was a very fascinating process involving the birth of new ideas and keeping in mind those awaiting their time.
FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
AB: This is a conceptual project. I wanted to show the basics of my style and the approach to designing space, specifically, dynamic forms and round-shaped solutions. A human being knows these things since conception in the mother's womb.
FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
AB: At the given stage, this is conceptual space. If such solutions will be akin to my customers, I will be pleased to realise this conceptual space together with them.
FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
AB: I wanted to show how the space in an apartment in a big bustling city can look like. Such an environment should have a minimum of sharp angles.
FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
AB: Yes, I like the space solutions, furniture and architecture of Zaha Hadid. In the project, I used the sofa she designed. On the wall, behind the sofa, is a round relief on a yellow wall. This is part of the NEBULA luminaire by designer Ross Lovegrove.
FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
AB: A young family with an extremely packed daily schedule. They are people who are keen on surrounding themselves with interesting and unusual things.
FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
AB: The dynamics of forms and solutions. The brightness of colour spots.
FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
AB: The name is linked to the conceptual solution of the entire interior design. This is the core of the project. The dynamic design of the walls enabled using the apartment area effectively. The convex and concave parts play both a decorative and functional role, allowing for utmost effective use of the room space.
FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
AB: Room analysis by the cardinal directions, hand sketches, and 3D visualisation.
FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
AB: The wall solutions were unique. In the hall, it is an inclined bent wall with shelves for decorative things. In the living room, it is a semi-round wall with a built-in TV set screen. This wall on the left-hand side has a convex part playing the role of a worktable on the bedroom side. Also interesting are the solutions of the walls with niches on the sofa side. The ceiling solutions feature light lines, built-in spotlights, and big built-in celling lamps. All this makes for an inimitable interior design style, and all these things are author's solutions.
FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
AB: project can be realised in our country.
FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
AB: The main material for creating the walls and the celling was a frame with plasterboard sheets. The yellow wall finishing was done with paint, and the 3D insert with a parametric pattern is a Paris plaster one. The black streamlined wall with convex and concave elements is finished with decorative relief stucco. The bed construction is of artificial stone, and the mattress that morphs into the headboard is made of high-elastic polyurethane foam. The matte surface on the celling and doors is of aluminum.
FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
AB: Какие исследования вы проводили для изготовления этой конструкции? The urban lifestyle makes present day people move faster and work more. In such an atmosphere, all sharp angles have to be rounded. The smooth wall dynamics of the apartment interior design help relaxing and getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Bright standing out spots of yellow and blue colors help a person to be alert and in good shape.
FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
AB: The basic problem was the depth of the entire apartment with regard for the light from the window. Natural light radiates into the hall and kitchen with big losses. This called for suggesting big luminaires on the ceiling and a range of light colours.
FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
AB: I would like to share my designs with colleagues from other countries, and see their works. I want to show that design in Ukraine is progressing. And of course I wanted the project to be interesting for the judges of an international contest. I'm glad that my project was awarded a bronze medal.
FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
AB: This project was the landmark in my design. In it, I strived to utmost demonstration of the ideas and space concepts that I worked on for many years while designing interiors in different styles. I wanted to show my own style – dynamic design.
FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
AB: I guess that one interview cannot cover all the issues. The questions posed are sufficient for talking about my design work.
