Interview with Ricky Fung at Wednesday 20th of April 2016 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? RF: We wanted to design a watch that focused on form and function - similar to the principles coming out of the Bauhaus era. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? RF: We wanted to keep the modern customer in mind. We wanted to translate old technology into a modern FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? RF: We'll be looking forward to releasing a gold version of our Atticus in a few months. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? RF: It's taken just over a year from inception to production. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? RF: No. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? RF: The design is aimed at customers who are looking for something a bit more special than the standard battery powered fashion watch. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? RF: Translating designs from paper to the physical world is always difficult and required us to constantly iterate. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? RF: We were looking to validate the quality of our design with experts and professionals from the industry.
