Interview with Golden Ho at Friday 29th of April 2016

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
GH: Sail Vision lies in the southern area of Guangzhou Avenue, the Golden Axis in Wuhan. Surrounded by a dozen of campuses, it is brimming with confidence and vigor of youths who are courageous enough to accept novel things. Inspired by this, we created an experiencing space contrary to traditions in hope of activating thoughts of people in a tense and unsettled atmosphere.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
GH: With the current limitations of the conditions, the building slope is fully used based on the building, with the application of linear deconstruction theory to break the monotone dull cell order and to introduce the brand new order by breaking, stacking and restructuring. The internal shape of the building shape is like a giant funnel to attract the passenger flow, leading the visitors to enter the exhibition space of experience.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
GH: In the future design, PONE is tend to a strong personality narrative, a rich sense of material, plus the landscape like picture and delicate detail processing. According to different projects inject different thoughts, but ultimately return to the authenticity of the building, still to create the soul space, driving by human development in the right direction.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
GH: The project completed in October 30th, 2015. Preparation, planning, draft, consummate, refining, etc, each link unfold exquisite and responsible attitude, integrate some modern elements. The project is full of PONE’s unique color, innovate boldly become one of the sign of PONE.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
GH: First of all, we are honored to cooperate with Wuhan Poly projects, the project of sales center’s function and inherent, etc, have gotten workmanlike demonstrate.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
GH: None at all. We can use it to inspire our designer, and push them to get a higher level. In the future, we will create more miracles, to improve the human aesthetic

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
GH: Sail Vision, surrounded by a dozen of campuses, it is brimming with confidence and vigor of youths who are courageous enough to accept novel things. Inspired by this, we created an experiencing space contrary to traditions in hope of activating people’s thoughts in a tense and unsettled atmosphere. Architectural spaces can create a space opposite with the traditions with the instability, uncertainty and tension to activate young people to think out of the real-life rules, and to use new logic to imagine a stereo vision of the future life and the world.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
GH: The part of other designers that helped me to influence of design, is how to create an experience space, with the antithesis of tradition, in an atmosphere of tension and instability to activate people's mind. By our excellent designer team is careful about researching, making different plans, to weigh the feasibility of it. Step by step, and we implement a linear space of rich longing of future life.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
GH: Everyone who loves life

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
GH: Sail Vision covers an area of 690 square meter. Because the exterior sloping roof architecture and main body are 14.7m high in the front part but only 2.8m in the rear part, it is necessary to break this rigid structure. The space takes on a form of a huge funnel, attracting the flow of people and leading visitors to the experiencing exhibition space. The interior space is linked among 5 layers. They are linked with each other progressively from large size to small size.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
GH: Sail, means free and unconstraint, sail minimalist lines inspire us to shape a linear deconstruction of space, apply the vision of the sail to the space. The project show the human who keep enthusiasm as his attitude in the future life, never stopping.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
GH: Upon entering the space, what leaps to the eyes is a front desk formed by multiple sets of triangle facets and a sand-tray model showcase likewise. Triangle cutting is applied all the way from the wood-color block in the third layer to the inner lounge, which divides several different functional areas. The combination between youthful and fashionable colors and linear conceptual soft design stimulates vision of people for future life.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
GH: It is worth mentioning here, the three windows on the left are refined by the slopes inclining forward, and the three sets of custom made booth sofa connect the spaces as a whole. The orange soft decorations ornaments adorn this pure space, and the bright color totally relaxes whole internal atmosphere. Traditional balanced cubic spaces can make people feel safe, but also make people lack the judgment on the forward-looking matters and the active perception abilities.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
GH: The excellent design team in my own company is all professional.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
GH: The 71 thin metal wires and 20 glimmering thick woodwinds installed in the hollow ceiling constituted a linear lamplight unit. Lights and wires were woven and overlaid with the space, providing the space with a flexible life and dynamic quality. Here, balanced and unbalanced structures were redefined and constructed a dangling nest .

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
GH: We learn that, there are more than a dozen campuses of all over surrounding the project, environment atmosphere full of young people's confidence and vigor. They have the courage to accept new things, Inspired us to create an experience space, with the antithesis of tradition, in an atmosphere of tension and instability to activate people's mind.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
GH: Sail Vision, by creating an unsettled, tense and unstable space contrary to traditions, stimulates the thinking and creativity of young people so that they could visualize future 3-d life with their new thoughts.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
GH: Learned that A 'Design Design Award in the international influence is so big, can get this award will be a great milestone on my design road.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
GH: Actually, building is constantly changing, mean you when moving the body will feel the different design. Overlap the perspective of experience, the art, architecture, landscape combine into one structure, continuously into the crowd, listen their inner voices, with their own efforts to change now seemingly harmonious order.
