Interview with Masaki Matsukawa at Thursday 24th of March 2016

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
MM: This brand is designing so that action appropriate for a man and a style may be felt most sexily. The state which handles delicate leather lubberly.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
MM: Leather like paper with which functionality of an aluminum foil is united. The bag which just touches and becomes fun.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
MM: I'd like to be charged with the role of collaborating on Japanese technical power with the design power of each country.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
MM: 2 years.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
MM: The goods to which a concept was precedent are flooding a market. Because I wanted to announce the fascinating design more intuitively than that. The design has been completed by our team.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
MM: There are all right for me. It's expected to sell it to each country through an agency but to develop in all over the world.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
MM: The feel of a material which isn't in other ones The material which isn't in other ones Use method to utilize that. That's intuitive.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
MM: DavidJames /art director Want were fulfilled, and it was decided to collaborate with him from next season.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
MM: Virility&Sexy mens

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
MM: The feel of a material of the leather is united with shape memory of an aluminum foil.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
MM: The material is expressing itself straight.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
MM: Paper, Pen, Illustrator and Photoshop

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
MM: The part which isn't influenced by a trend in a market.

FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
MM: Kohei Okamoto, the designer. Factory of leather. Craftsman of a bag. Dyeing craftsman.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
MM: Thinning the leather to the limit. Thereby crimp the aluminum foil leather. To keep the texture, such as paper.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
MM: Instead of the calculation, it has been to take care of the intuition born out of the ordinary. The remainder being everyday experience.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
MM: Leather setting, the leather durability and adhesive setting.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
MM: Rather than the assessment of the market, we wanted to challenge whether to world-class competition of Rendition.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
MM: That it's made in Japan, when adding the creative power, it's possible to make the world the design in common use.

FS: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
MM: This series still keeps an unknown possibility. It itself is also renewing goods every day. I'd like to collaborate with various artists and expand the range from now on.
