Interview with 1983ASIA at Wednesday 26th of April 2017

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
1A: The auspicious animal totem is the center of the cultural and spiritual worship of Chinese people. 1983ASIA studies on the auspicious animals of the Chinese dynasties and in the Chinese decorative aesthetics, excavates the spiritual world behind them, and draws inspirations from them, in order to re-demonstrate the great oriental aesthetics by modern design skills. We hope to show the fashionable, vigorous Asia to the world.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
1A: 1983ASIA rearranged the features and color systems of the auspicious animal totems in Asia and boldly re-designed the ancient totems, with repeated modification, editing and adjustment. To encourage the younger consumersto develop interest in their own traditional culture as they see this product, we tried to use new materials. The designers have checked the color and made samples with the factory for many times. Finally,it’s decided asan enthusiastic fashion accessory, giving brand new vigor to the Chinese totem culture.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
1A: This series of products have been marketed and well received. We’ll continue the notion of Rank Badge” and transfer more traditional elements to design and bring the products to more people.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
1A: About half a year.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
1A: 1983ASIA has been always devoted to the study of Asian culture and endowing new energy to tradition via design. As Asian designers, 1983ASIArethoughtthe link between Chinese people’s design and the Chinese culture and released this designspontaneously, hoping to initiate brand new visual experience by design and spreadto the world Chinese people’s awe fornature.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
1A: Our design is entrusted to another company for production and is marketed in China.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
1A: We hope to initiate brand new visual experience by design and spreadto the world Chinese people’s awe for nature.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
1A: The new generation who’re interested in traditional culture.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
1A: It’sderived from the Chinese character Rank Badge.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
1A: We draw it by hand first, and then modified, compiled and adjusted it by PS and AI.

1A: We do research and select materials on our own.
