Interview with Nikolay Ivanov at Thursday 21st of April 2016

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
NI: The "Citroën in Lines" project was born from my passion to the car brand, and love to design. What I wanted is to represent the history of the cars, in different way, that haven't been done so far. I experimented with different techniques for a while till I found the right one for me. This design's aim is to make not only the car brand enthusiasts but the people that have never driven a Citroën car to browse thru their history with interest.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
NI: I wanted to create a piece that stands out and be recognizable among other works. The hardest was to find the correct visuals, and order of the images, as there are a lof of different models. I choose to use Behance as a platform for my work, and exhibit it there. I wanted this design to be well recognized among the car fans and not only. Luckily Citroën International contacted me a week after I published my work, and proposed to share it in it's social networks. For me this was a huge success of the project.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
NI: I will further develop the project by adding new and missing models of the brand, also planning to animate those designs, in order to make the project fully completed.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
NI: The concept itself took the most of the time. I spent maybe few moths to come up with the visuals and the idea.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
NI: I did this work because of my passion to the car brand. I wanted to make a personal work that is inspired of something I love. This way I was working with all my passion and energy.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
NI: This design was used by Citroën itself, and promoted thrue all the social networks they use. I am currently selling artprints of this design.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
NI: I wanted to create a project that will stand out. To do this I knew I had to choose a subject that was close to me and this is how it came.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
NI: While working on this design I got great help and motivation from my friend and great illustrator Fausto Montanari

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
NI: Almoast every person that is interested in cars.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
NI: The design itself, the colors, shapes and order.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
NI: The name represents the technique of making this design. As I used only strokes / lines I have named it "Citroën in lines" It also stands out for the line of the history.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
NI: I did use Adobe Illustrator for creating this piece.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
NI: I believe the most unique aspect of this design is the way it serves the huge amount of models in a simple, engaging and easy to understand way.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
NI: The research behind this work was massive. I have tried to discover all the information I could for existing and conceptual models they have produced, as well year start and stop of production. I have ordered all the cars in chronological order from the first, to the last.

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
NI: The huge amount of work was the hardest. While doing this design I was working on other projects for clients and I had to remain calm and motivated to do it even I had to work almoast all the time.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
NI: I was reached from A'Design team with an exclusive invitation to join the competition.

FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
NI: It have been a great experince this project. I found that if you mix your passion with the work you love to do, you can't do any wrong.

FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
