Interview with Ladan Zadfar at Thursday 21st of April 2016 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? LZ: Origami is one of the most interesting hand arts ever, once we read an article about origami that was written by an origami professor, he said we can use origami for everything because it is everywhere and that was the sparkle of this idea. If origami is everywhere and we can use it for everything why not in the kitchen! We started working on a new teapot and kettle that is a concept of an origami boat. We also used colors that mostly represent the ocean and the sea to let you feel its content. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? LZ: This design is an elegant, beautiful teakettle which is a concept lies in the fusion of origami boats and a teapot and is a true pleasure to partake from. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? LZ: We hope that this award can help us find investors to mass produce this design because every designer would love to see people using his design. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? LZ: This concept took two weeks to be designed . FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? LZ: We were inspired by origami art and our interest was to intern this wonderful art to everyday life . FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? LZ: We would love to participate with investors who are interested in this design . FS: What made you design this particular type of work? LZ: The design world is really widespread and it gives anyone the opportunity to push the boundaries and make everything look different and even design things that did not exist before so we encouraged ourselves to do something different . FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? LZ: No , there were not and this product was designed the way that was explained before . FS: Who is the target customer for his design? LZ: Everyone in the world who like to have a new look in their kitchen . FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? LZ: O boat means origami boat , we wanted to underline the technique and shape of our design in its name . FS: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills? LZ: No we did not . FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? LZ: Technology has a great role for every design and for sure has a great part in our design too . FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? LZ: Our design is influenced by origami art and we did a major research on this art . FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? LZ: The challenge was to combine origami and kitchenware like teakettle and make it work . The hardest part was to shape something that shows our point of view and the aspects that were important for designers. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? LZ: As designers we always try to be updated and we trace good designs and designers and the best field to find them is to follow great international design competitions such as A'Design Award so we became familiar to this competition . We decided to submit our design to evaluate our work and understand our place in the design world . FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? LZ: We did major researches and a lot of study in order to get the best result we could .
