Interview with Kenan Ozcan at Thursday 21st of April 2016 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? KO: The main idea here to reorganize an old building from a shopping center to an office. so, the inspiration comes from historical and traditional aesthetic memories without imitation but adaptation with technology. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? KO: Mixing innovative materials and techniques with references to well known historical styles and archetypes in order to create a harmony and make a balance between the traditional aesthetics and the modern technology has been my main focus in designing this work, like most of others. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? KO: Now, it is used by an organisation office without any changing in design and it makes me happy. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? KO: It took about three months. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? KO: I always believe that a design should refer to the past or local features without imitation but adaptation to present or even future. This is where the inspiration comes from. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? KO: It is used by another company as a head office. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? KO: Improving the previous designs of mine influenced this design too, for sure. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? KO: The variety of materials from Ottoman brick to floral wallpapers, metal laser cut panels, using so many colours, etc. is the unique aspect of my design.
