Interview with Jong Chan Kim at Thursday 21st of April 2016

FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
JK: The most important thing for this product is that design kick scooter for adults. Because there many people use it for commuting, but it usually does not match with their outfits.

FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
JK: I want to design kick scooter that does not harm their appearance and also enhance their style.

FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
JK: production.

FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
JK: It took three months from beginning of the concept to the final design.

FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
JK: Every morning, I saw so many business people and usually they wear formal clothes. Some of them use bicycles and kick scooters. However, these does not fit on them. That is why I decided to design kick scooter for the adult.

FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
JK: I have right to produce my work myself.

FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
JK: I like to design products that represent users' thinking and their styles.

FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
JK: Tim Tan. He is Founder and Chief Designer at Nosh studio in San Francisco.

FS: Who is the target customer for his design?
JK: Broadly adults. Specifically business people.

FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
JK: I used many umbrellas silhouette inspiration.

FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
JK: My main design theme is the British gentleman. So I chose this name from one of the underground station.

FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
JK: Photoshop, Illustrator, Solidworks, Rhino and Vray.

FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
JK: Seamless joint parts.

FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
JK: Human factors.

FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
JK: Interview and observation

FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
JK: Finding right pivot point for the handle.

FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
JK: This is one of the best design competitions that is why I decided to submit.
