Interview with Renato Goncalves at Wednesday 27th of April 2016 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? RG: FS 275 Wide was designed for those who seek a boat for daily use, that doesn't take up space with a large cabin because no one intends to sleep over. However, a small cabin is required for the use of children, and we did it without taking space from the cockpit. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? RG: FS 275 Wide is already one of the best selling boats in Brazil. The award we won is now helping us achieve new markets worldwide. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? RG: Almost 2 years of design and manufacturing the mold. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? RG: First we had the demand for such a boat, and then we sought out inspiration to design it in a way no one had ever achieved. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? RG: It is being produced by us, FS Yachts Boatbuilder. FS: What made you design this particular type of work? RG: We manufacture and sell boats since 1998. FS: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work? RG: Many boat designs we have seen in dozens of boat shows around the world. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? RG: The way in which we added 2 rooms (Bathroom and cabin) without taking space from the cockpit on a day use. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? RG: FS is the brand name. 275 is the boat size (27,5 ft), and Wide is a surname for a boat with lots of cockpit space. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? RG: Rhino 3D and a 4-axis CNC router. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? RG: The cockpit layout. FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? RG: As a very distinctive boat from every other marine vessel in the world, we felt it had all the requirements to win a design competition.
