FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
YK: It's the unique relationship between water and land and how they interconnect one another. With free flowing water movements and simplified outline of landscape, they come together to inspire and create new fabric.
FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
YK: Creating a new look for jacquard woven fabric.
FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
YK: About three months.
FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
YK: Actually it's for my graduation project in Zhejiang Sci-tech University. So to say, this design is a commission but also a decision to pursuit an inspiration.
FS: What made you design this particular type of work?
YK: Passion for jacquard woven fabrics.
FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
YK: Shuttle is an essential device used in jacquard weaving which is the point of this project. And it's also a form of transport that travels from a place to another place. It gives a sense of spirituality and an energetic, lively, and innovative feeling.
FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
YK: According to the abstract geometric pattern from nature, I tries to create the fabric rendered in delicate hues of magenta and purple, contrasting against silver piece that formed the final vignette.
FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
YK: Just try. Give myself a chance to show the idea and design to the world.
