Interview with Supriyo Roy at Thursday 21st of January 2016 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? SR: Faasos was born observing the frequent and much asked question of "What's for Dinner (or Lunch or even Breakfast) today?". Not everyday and every time you would want to cook your own food or go for a restaurant to eat out. And yet, it's natural human craving to desire something different and unique to eat everyday. Faasos has one mission, to deliver you that answer in no-time with best possible online ordering experience. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? SR: Project development started in early 2015 and was released in middle of 2015. It is evolving since then. Major work has had happened at the Faasos HQ in Mumbai. FS: Who is the target customer for his design? SR: Target user group has always been 20-35 years old indian demographic which lives in the metro cities and has very less time to cook their own food or even go for frequent dinners outside. FS: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts? SR: Even being similar on the skeleton level with other resembling concepts, the faasos design focusing on simplistic and quick ordering experience which is hassle-free and has certain hidden treats throughout the user journey to keep the user enlightened and surprised. FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? SR: There had been no separate exercise done for the same. We released the product with the name the company brand had been positioned with. FS: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project? SR: A variety of them actually. From Defining wireframes, to creating visual details and final interactive details, a lot of tools were involved. I can recall specific names like Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, Invision, Marvelapp etc to name a few. FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? SR: Technology is in the heart of the entire design experience because no digital design can perform at it's epitome if the technologies accompanying it aren't rock solid. Technology behind the app is the reliable and scalable infrastructure and fast response APIs which make sure overall experience is buttery smooth. FS: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design? SR: The user experience design was heavily data-driven and throughout the process the application evolved depending on the data gathered from previously released versions. On interaction and visual design level, specific experiences (for example: mobile tracking flow) were A/B tested and then optimised to the point where it had universal appeal to the target user-group. FS: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work? SR: The creative challenge in the project has always been about how to project and present the inventory ( menu items ) in a best possible way to our users. People in a country as vast as India have strikingly different visual tastes and preferences about how their food should look like and in what packaging delivered to them. We aggressively tried different versions of the visual design for the menu being presented in the app and based on the data gathered over time , we optimised the experience to something which was appealing nationwide.
