Interview with Eric Tam at Friday 15th of April 2016 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? ET: The main inspiration of this specific design came from the nationality of our client, who is accustomed to the European lifestyle which contrasts with the busy crowded city life in Macau. Our client was looking to transform the apartment into a peaceful environment using sober colours and natural sunlight as main decor. Moreover, the theme was set to be ultra-modern style which was developed according to our client's interest. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? ET: The main focus during this project has been looking for the appropriate materials and furniture for client, but not to exaggerate the ultra-modern theme. For example, it has been a challenge looking for the suitable colour for furniture and decor items, which is because we were worried that the white and grey would not work together if they were being over-used. On the other hand, our client intended to look for a simple calming home, which then inspired us to use less decor items, the main focus in terms of decor is the zebra painting in the living room which accentuates the liveliness in the apartment, which also contrasts with the sober colours. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? ET: This specific design has been features on a Hong Kong based interior design monthly magazine, and we would like to be featured on a tv programme regarding interior design. Furthermore, if this design does win the award, we are going to be announcing on our website, Facebook page and wechat official to target more clients who are fond of this design style. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? ET: The process took place for 3 months, including background research regarding the design theme, meetings with client as well as idea development after several meetings with client. FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? ET: This particular concept was an inspiration coming from the first meeting with our client, as they addressed they were originally from France, it immediately resemble the quiet, calming atmosphere of an European lifestyle. As well as our client intended to look for a modern/western themed home. FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? ET: Our firm reserves all rights of our design products and we do not wish to sell or lease any production rights for other companies.
